Subtitle translator for YouTube: translate captions, or create them from speech
A subtitle translator normally needs a subtitle file to start from. TranslateTube does not: it translates a video's existing captions when they exist, and when they do not, it recognizes the speech and creates translated subtitles from the audio. Either way you read the video in your language, in sync with the speaker, and can add an AI voice on top.
Two ways to get translated subtitles
- The video has captions: they are translated with a large language model that keeps meaning and tone, not word by word.
- The video has no captions: the speech is recognized from the audio and translated. This is where YouTube's own auto-translate stops and TranslateTube continues.
How it works
- Install the TranslateTube Chrome extension on a computer, or the Android app on your phone.
- Open any YouTube video and choose your language.
- Turn on subtitles, and add AI dubbing if you want to listen as well. Pick a male or female voice.
- Press play. The translation starts within seconds and stays in sync with the video.
Subtitles compared with YouTube auto-translate
- Works on videos without captions.
- Keeps timing in sync with the speech.
- Translation by a language model rather than phrase-by-phrase machine translation.
- Optional AI voice in the same language, with the original audio still available.
Free to use
The free mode has no minute limit and no daily cap. The only restriction is on videos longer than three hours. Premium adds higher-quality voices. One subscription works in the extension and the app.
