Privacy Policy

Effective date: 2026-07-13 · Last updated: 2026-07-13

This Privacy Policy explains how TranslateTube (“TranslateTube”, “we”, “us”) collects, uses, and protects your information when you use:

  • our website translatetube.io (the “Website”),
  • the TranslateTube browser extension (the “Extension”),
  • the TranslateTube mobile applications for iOS and Android (the “Apps”),

together — the “Service”.

TranslateTube translates the videos you watch: it generates an AI voice-over (dubbing) and subtitles in the language you choose.

Data Controller: Nikolai Kuskov — help@translatetube.io

In Short

  • We never sell your personal information, and we never share it with advertisers or data brokers.
  • We translate the video’s soundtrack, not you. The Service does not request or use your microphone or camera.
  • Your card details never reach us. Payments are handled by Polar, Apple, and Google.
  • The Extension and the Apps contain no advertising or analytics trackers.
  • The translations we generate are linked to the video, not to your account.
  • You can delete your account at any time by emailing help@translatetube.io.

The rest of this policy is the detail behind these commitments.

1. Information We Collect

Account information. When you create an account (available on the Website and in the Extension; account sign-in in the Apps may be introduced in future versions), we collect your email address, name, and password. Passwords are stored only in hashed form — we never store them in plain text. If you sign in with Google or Apple, we receive your name and email address (and, for Google, your profile picture) from that provider. We never receive your Google or Apple password.

Installation identifiers. Each installation of the Extension or the Apps is assigned a random identifier; guest users receive a temporary identifier. These identifiers are linked to your account when you sign in. In the Apps we also process the app version.

Usage information. To operate the Service, show your usage statistics, enforce plan limits, and prevent abuse, we record: which videos you translated and for how long, the languages you selected, your ratings and feedback, your client version, and your IP address with the country derived from it.

Translation content. The subtitles and audio tracks the Service generates are derived from the video itself and are cached per video so that repeated playback is instant. This content is not linked to your account.

Browser extension. The Extension runs only on YouTube pages — its only host permission is youtube.com. To translate a video, it sends us the video identifier, your language and voice settings, your sign-in or guest token, and the video’s subtitles when YouTube provides them. It does not read your browsing history and does not collect data from any other websites. We use this data solely to provide the translation feature, consistent with the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including its Limited Use requirements.

Payments. We never receive or store your card details. On the Website, payments are processed by Polar, our merchant of record. In the Apps, subscriptions are processed by Apple App Store (In-App Purchase) and Google Play Billing. We receive only confirmation of your subscription status.

Support chat. The account dashboard on the Website includes a support chat provided by Tawk.to. If you are signed in, the chat receives your name and email so we can assist you; the full list of data it processes is in Section 3.

Website analytics. The Website uses Google Analytics, and it loads only after you accept analytics cookies in the cookie banner (Google Consent Mode). The Extension and the Apps contain no analytics or advertising trackers.

2. How We Use Information

We use the information described above to:

  • provide the Service: translate, dub, and subtitle the videos you watch;
  • create and maintain your account and authenticate you across devices;
  • process subscriptions and enforce plan limits;
  • show your usage history and statistics in your dashboard;
  • improve the quality of translations and voices, including through your ratings and feedback;
  • provide customer support;
  • detect, prevent, and respond to fraud and abuse;
  • comply with legal obligations.

We do not use your personal information to train AI models, and we do not make automated decisions that produce legal or similarly significant effects for you.

Legal bases (GDPR): performance of a contract (providing the Service you signed up for), our legitimate interests (security, abuse prevention, service improvement), your consent (website analytics cookies), and compliance with legal obligations.

3. Who We Share Information With

Polar, Apple App Store, Google Play, and Google or Apple Sign-In act as independent controllers: what you provide to or through them is also governed by their own privacy policies.

We disclose information beyond this list only where the law requires it, or where it is necessary to protect the rights, safety, and property of TranslateTube, our users, or the public.

4. International Transfers

Our service providers process data in countries other than your own, including the United States. Where the law requires safeguards for such transfers, we use Standard Contractual Clauses; you can request a copy of them at help@translatetube.io.

5. Data Retention

  • Account data — kept while your account exists. When you delete your account, we delete or irreversibly anonymize your personal information within 30 days, except records we are legally required to keep (e.g., payment records).
  • Usage records — kept while they are linked to your account and deleted with it.
  • IP addresses and technical logs — kept only as long as needed for security and abuse prevention.

  • access the personal information we hold about you;
  • receive a copy of your data (data portability);
  • correct inaccurate data;
  • delete your data;
  • object to or restrict certain processing;
  • withdraw consent at any time (e.g., analytics cookies);
  • lodge a complaint with your supervisory authority.

Account deletion. To delete your account, email help@translatetube.io from the address linked to your account. We complete deletion within 30 days, except for records we are legally required to keep (e.g., payment records).

California residents: we do not sell or share personal information as defined by the CCPA/CPRA.

7. Cookies

The Website uses a small set of first-party cookies and storage items:

  • Essential (always active): authentication cookies for your session; tt-cookie-consent — remembers your cookie choice; tt-extension-id — links your account to the Extension when you connect it; tt-billing-portal-* — session-only items used during a billing action.
  • Analytics (only after you accept): Google Analytics cookies _ga and _ga_* (up to 2 years) and _gid (24 hours). Until you accept, Google Analytics sets no tracking cookies (Google Consent Mode).

You can change your choice at any time via Cookie Settings in the page footer or in your browser settings. The Extension and the Apps set no advertising cookies.

8. Children

The Service is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us personal information, contact us and we will delete it.

9. Security

We protect your information with encryption in transit (TLS), hashed passwords, and access controls. No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure.

10. Changes to This Policy

When we update this Policy, we post the new version on this page and update the “Last updated” date above. For material changes, we notify you via the Service or by email.
